Transforming a beautiful piece of wool into a coat or jacket is one of my favorite things. Successful tailoring requires some special sewing and pressing techniques. In this workshop, I will show you all the details that make a magnificent coat or jacket.
We will start with fitting and preparation of patterns including off-graining, button/overlap width and drafting or adjusting lining pattern pieces. Learn about turn-of-the-cloth and working with heavier coating fabrics.
A variety of coat and jacket samples will be available to show interfacing options, notched collars, a number of welt pocket and bound buttonhole choices, sleeves, shoulder shaping, interfaced hems, lining options and more.

Choose any coat or jacket pattern you desire. Consult with Marla on your fabric choices. The techniques you need to know will be included in class so you can sew a fabulous coat or jacket.

Get a head start with a fitting session (see Optional Fitting Session below). Take advantage of Portland's wonderful fabric stores with a day of shopping (see Optional Shopping Day below).

You may bring your own sewing machine or arrange with Marla to borrow one.

Workshops begin each morning at 9AM and finish at 5PM. The classroom is available to you in the evening and will be locked securely overnight.

Lunch is included each day. There are many restaurants within walking distance for dinner on your own.
This workshop will be limited to 6 students to ensure individual attention. A $100 non-refundable deposit will reserve a space for you.

The workshop will be held at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Portland South/Lake Oswego, located at 6100 SW Meadows Road, Lake Oswego, OR 97035. Accommodations are available at the Fairfield Inn or other nearby hotels. Contact the Fairfield Inn directly at 503-670-7557 to make a reservation. Ask for the Kazell Sewing room rate.

OPTIONAL FITTING SESSION

Get a head start on your class project by fitting your pattern with Marla's expert help. Schedule a private 60 minute session in her nearby studio on Wednesday, October 18. Transportation from the hotel will be provided. The fee for this optional session is $55.

OPTIONAL SHOPPING DAY

An optional shopping day on Tuesday, October 24, will give you an opportunity to visit many of the fabulous fabric stores in Portland Josephine's Dry Goods, Mill End, Fabric Depot, and others. Shop for the perfect fabric for your class project or add an irresistible piece to your stash. We'll break for lunch, then shop 'til we drop! The fee for this optional day is $115.
