October 15-19, 2020
Fairfield Inn - Lake Oswego, Oregon

Workshop Fee: $995

  • 5 days of design, fitting and sewing instruction
  • classroom equipped with pressing stations, irons and pressing tools
  • 6 foot table for each student
  • lunch each day
  • notebook of instructional materials

Why keep starting over with new shirt and blouse patterns when you can keep re-designing just one? Start with a basic pattern that you fit once. Then add the details you see in ready-to-wear or other patterns. Learn how to manipulate darts to make new design lines, change sleeve and cuff details, interchange a variety of front facings and plackets, draft new collars, and add trims to create completely new looks.
A list of basic patterns will be provided at the time you register. During the workshop, you will fit and construct your basic pattern and learn to sew front plackets, shirt collars and collar stands, continuous sleeve plackets and cuffs.
Peruse a rack of shirt and blouse samples with princess seams, gathers, tucks, bias collars, hidden plackets, unusual buttonholes and trim details that will inspire your creativity. In class, you will learn how to easily draft these new details and practice dart manipulation with quarter scale patterns. Choose your favorite details and try them on your next shirt or blouse.

You may bring your own sewing machine or arrange with Marla to borrow one.

Workshops begin each morning at 9AM and finish at 5PM. The classroom is available to you in the evening and will be locked securely overnight.

Lunch is included each day. There are many restaurants within walking distance for dinner on your own.
This workshop will be limited to 6 students to ensure individual attention. A $100 non-refundable deposit will reserve a space for you.
