The bias grain of fabric can be used to create beautidul effects in the drape, fit, and visual design of clothing. Soft drape, a close yet comfortable fit, and chevroned stripes or plaids can all be achieved by cutting garments on the bias. Bias is also a perfect choice for finishing details. Knowing techniques for handling bias will help you successfully incorporate bias into your sewing.
In this workshop, you will learn how to prepare a pattern, and mark, cut, fit and sew seams in a bias cut garment. Practice the techniques in class by cutting and sewing a bias shell, cowl neck top, or four gore skirt. Discover how different fabrics respond when cut on the bias, and how to adjust the fit as you sew.
We will also spend a day creating bias details. Practice applying bias binding, sewing a Hong Kong facing, creating a decorative Hong Kong edge finish and more. You will be ready to incorporate the beauty of bias into your sewing.

You may bring your own sewing machine or arrange with Marla to borrow one.

Workshops begin each morning at 9AM and finish at 5PM. The classroom is available to you in the evening and will be locked securely overnight.

Lunch is included each day. There are many restaurants within walking distance for dinner on your own.
This workshop will be limited to 6 students to ensure individual attention. A $100 non-refundable deposit will reserve a space for you.
