Jackets are a must in everyone's wardrobe. Suits and blazers are great, but don't you usually reach for
something more casual? A simple cardigan, shirt jacket, baseball or bomber style jacket – easy and
comfortable. No matter the style, a great fitting jacket and some good tailoring techniques will help you
create your perfect jacket.
Let's start with a basic pattern and get the fit just right. Then, see how you can change up the details
and fabrics to change the look. Try a fun new buttonhole technique or change the closure to a zipper. Draft
a new collar, manipulate the darts, combine patterns or add pockets. Express your artistic self with collage,
couching, or trims. Use a beautiful fabric for a dressy look or go casual with denim or knits. Make your jacket
lined, unlined or reversible. No one will know they all started with the same pattern!
Learn the best techniques for sewing your jacket, including tips for interfacing selection, reducing bulk,
pressing, setting in sleeves and drafting a lining.
A list of suggested patterns and design ideas will be sent to you when you register. During the workshop,
you will fit and sew a jacket, and make a notebook of samples for future jackets.
You may bring your own sewing machine or arrange with Marla to borrow one.
Workshops begin each morning at 9AM and finish at 5PM. The classroom is available to you in the evening and will be locked securely overnight.
Lunch is included each day. There are many restaurants within walking distance for dinner on your own.
This workshop will be limited to 6 students to ensure individual attention. A $100 non-refundable deposit will reserve a space for you.
The workshop will be held at the Fairfield Inn & Suites – Portland South/Lake Oswego, located at 6100 SW Meadows Road,
Lake Oswego, OR 97035. Accommodations are available at the Fairfield Inn or other nearby hotels. Contact the
